Autism Services
Autism looks different from one person to the next, and effective support starts with understanding the individual child instead of applying a single template to every diagnosis.
Autism looks different from one person to the next, and effective support starts with understanding the individual child instead of applying a single template to every diagnosis. Families seek autism services at Allen Psychology for many reasons: help understanding a recent diagnosis, questions about whether autism is part of a broader picture, or support with social challenges, emotional regulation, transitions, or school planning for a child already diagnosed.
Some families arrive early in the process, still forming questions about whether autism explains what they are observing; others arrive with a diagnosis already in hand but little practical guidance about what to do next. Both starting points are common, and both are treated with the same level of care. A diagnosis is never the finish line. It is a starting point for understanding how a specific child experiences the world, what supports will actually help, and how a family can adjust expectations and routines in ways that reduce daily friction without asking a child to mask who they are.
Evaluation
Dr. Allen provides autism spectrum disorder evaluation for children and adolescents, assessing cognitive, language, social, and adaptive functioning to clarify a child’s profile and support diagnostic decision-making. Evaluation looks beyond a single behavior or symptom checklist to understand how a child communicates, plays, learns, and manages sensory and social experiences across settings, using both standardized measures and direct observation of the child.
Ongoing Support
Social communication support, focused on understanding social situations rather than memorizing rules
Emotional regulation strategies tailored to a child's sensory and emotional profile
Support navigating anxiety that frequently accompanies autism spectrum presentations
Collaboration around IEP goals and classroom accommodations for school-age children
Parent coaching on routines, visual supports, and responding to challenging behavior at home
A Strength-Based Approach
The goal of autism support at Allen Psychology is never to change who a child is. It is to help children, adolescents, and their families understand strengths alongside challenges, and to build the skills and environments that let a child participate more comfortably and confidently at home, at school, and with peers. A child’s intense interests, attention to detail, or direct communication style are treated as real strengths to build from, not obstacles to correct.
